From Your Chevy Dealer: 4 Classic Cars of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s

Chevrolet Delray

The year 1958 saw the Delray become a car of its own. The Delray had previously been a trim option for the Chevrolet 150. It featured a broad front grille, quad headlights, and fan-shaped alcove side panels which drew the eye. Three body styles were available: a 2-door sedan, a 4-door sedan, and a 2-door delivery sedan.

The standard engine option was a 3.9L straight six, but you could also choose a 4.7L small-block V8 or the new  5.7L big-block V8. The Delray was offered in a choice of 2-speed manual transmission or 3-speed automatic transmission.

Chevrolet Caprice

Moving forward to 1967, the Caprice is another true classic. Originally launched in 1966, the 1967 model is the one everyone remembers. The body was styled for more rounded lines, and a host of other changes made the 1967 Caprice elegant yet affordable.

The Caprice had a range of engine choices, from the 4.7L small-block V8 to the 7.4L big-block V8. Transmission choices included a 3-speed or 4-speed manual transmission or the Powerglide or Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmissions.

Chevrolet Bel Air

The Bel Air is one of Chevy’s most famous models. The original Bel Air debuted in 1950, but we’re going to take a look at a late 60’s model, the 1969 Bel Air. This model was completely redesigned and featured sleek lines and new front and back ends. This was also the last model offered as a 2-door sedan or a 4-door wagon. All future models would be 4-door sedans.

The 1969 model kept the original wheelbase but extended the body by 5 inches. The standard engine was a reliable 4.1L turbo I-6 with 235 hp, but you could choose from several additional engines up to a 7.0L big-block V8 rated at 425 hp. Transmission options included a 3-speed or 4-speed manual transmission or a 2-speed or 3-speed automatic transmission.

Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The 1973 Monte Carlo differs from the other models on this list, as it was designed after new environmental and safety legislation was introduced from 1970 onwards. Leaded gasoline was a thing of the past, and the Chevy Monte Carlo’s engines were designed for unleaded gasoline. Shock absorbers, front and rear anti-roll bars, and radial-ply tires were innovations applied to this model.

The standard engine was a 5.0L V8, but three other options were available, including a 7.44L V8. Its transmission was offered as either a 3-speed manual or a 3-speed automatic transmission.
